Do You Really Value Yourself?
Self-value, we hear this term all the time, but what does it really mean? What does it mean to truly value oneself and walk in this world feeling fully confident, loved, and accepted? To walk in this world knowing deep down inside that you play an invaluable role, knowing that you are unique in your own form. What a feeling of freedom and fullness, wholeness and abundance.
I closed my eyes and imagined myself walking around the world with this truth deeply seeded in my mind, heart, and soul, and it felt really good. I remember smiling so big, knowing that I am special as I am, that I am enough as I am. I felt a deep sense of calm overcome me, wiping all anxiety from my body. I made it my goal that day to walk with that mindset, even if it didn’t feel right at times because my ego wouldn’t allow me to feel good about myself.
Valuing oneself is vital in life. In my understanding if I can’t value myself than why should others? That sound harsh, but it’s extremely true. Of course there are amazing people in our lives that will always value us no matter what, but what does that do if you are unhappy to be in your own skin? What does it matter if we can’t value ourselves and appreciate our own being? But where does one begin? How does one start valuing oneself, especially in a society that makes it nearly impossible to do so?
That is a difficult question to answer because everyone is so different, but I find one thing that really works is gratitude. Gratitude for my being and life, gratitude for my ability to breath, to see, to hear, to taste, to feel, to hug, etc. When I am in a state of gratitude, everything is perfect as it is. All is fully accepted and life is abundant in all realms. With gratitude, I am able to understand what value really is. With gratitude I can feel the vast beauty of life and my own magnificence. I find it hard to be sad or upset when I am grateful.
I invite you to start your day with full gratitude. As you open your eyes, allow gratitude to pour in as you thank the Universe for your being, for your body, for your breath, for those whom are close and special to you. Say thank you for all that is, no matter how difficult it may be. Know that gratitude is medicine for our soul; it is a powerfully healing phenomenon that is always there for our use. Use this powerful tool anytime you feel like you are not good enough, pretty enough, smart enough, etc.
Don’t Listen to Social Media
Our bodies are amazing! They allow us to do what we love to do. We are living in “body-suits”, an “outfit” to our spirit. I mean to say this in the highest regard to our bodies. Just like the vast shapes, sizes, colors, lengths of our clothing, the same goes for our humanity. We all come in different shapes , sizes, colors, forms, but we are all made up of the same material/energy.
Our society makes it rather difficult to love oneself. Everywhere we look, there are advertisements about how to “fix” this and that, on how to look more like this than that, basically that we are never perfect and always need to be changing something about our appearance. How can one find comfort in their own bodies if they are being told constantly that they need to change? These messages come both in direct and indirect ways, conscious and subconscious, obvious and hidden.
Everywhere you look there are advertisements portraying a specific type of body, a specific type of person, a specific kind of look, so many of them lacking the true colorful portrayal of our reality. This is not to take away from the beauty of that specific body type that is mainly portrayed in media, but awareness needs to be built around the fact that one does not need to look like that to be valued in society. All shapes, colors, lengths, widths need to be appreciated and valued. All play a special role in creating such a unique world.
So welcome in your unique self. Know that you are special just the way you are. Don’t allow others to define you, to limit you to their beliefs. See yourself as a precious gem in this world because you are! Stop compartmentalizing yourself, and love everyone unique aspect of yourself. Know that you are multi-faceted and have many unique gifts to share with this world. Welcome in all your colors, your shapes, your sizes, your characteristics. Be kind and gentle with yourself and know you are always valuable!
